Getting Even

Good advice from a Christian perspective on this Sunday afternoon, because Christians are not to get even with those who have done wrong against them. Believe me, I know that is not easy, but we are to leave it up to the Lord when it comes to consequences for the evil doer. In the book of Romans, it tells me not to return evil for evil and to overcome evil with good. See Romans 12:17-21. It will do you much good to put your energies into getting even with those who have helped you and not getting even with those who have hurt you but to even help them.

Mother’s Day Tribute 2012

I wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, grand-moms, great grand-moms, Aunts, foster moms, and neighborhood moms. God bless you all. I give tribute to my mother on this Mother’s day. The two images of her are from 1960 and 2004.

Proverbs 31:26…28a

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Her children arise and call her blessed…

The music selections are from my mother’s favorites. The top one is a favorite from the early years after she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. I could not find the version sung by Dave Boyer that she loved so much, but this version by the Gaither Vocal Band will do just as good, because she loves their singing. The video on the bottom is a favorite that she hears today on a very popular gospel radio station that she always wants to listen to when she is in the kitchen against my listening to talk radio.

My mother experienced health problems that would have killed many. She had too many hospital stays in 2011 which included the ICU and being there for Easter and Christmas. Praise the Lord, 2012 so far has been triumphant. My mother at age 86 is one strong woman in the Lord.  She is deep into the Word of God and is especially drawn to eschatology –  the doctrine of last things.

My mother is able to return to going to 8:00 A. M. Sunday morning church worship services. She is the oldest female member and many respectfully and lovingly call her Mother.  She desires to be able to remain for Sunday School and to resume serving in the Missions Ministry. She even still wants to make a dress or a top and skirt ensemble  on the sewing machine that is in her bedroom. I can tell you back in the day, my mother made fabulous women’s suits, dresses and hats.

My mother’s body has been through much, but her spirit and mind continue to be as feisty as ever. If you are going to argue a point that is in disagreement with her, you must have all your facts, because she has all her’s and will argue you into the ground. I love her. God bless her.

Bleak: The New Normal

Gary Varvel Cartoon

This is so sad, but at least people are getting jobs that place them in the over qualification category. My year of 1973 was also not a great time to graduate and look for a job. Back then, the policy of not hiring people who were over qualified for a position prevailed.  Through the years that I worked in child care, I worked as a teacher in a center that would not hire an over qualified person for any of the classroom positions. When I directed a center for a for-profit chain, I was told not to hire any over qualified people, because they are still on the hunt for the job that befits their degree, less loyal and would not give full commitment to the children.

There are people out there who feel college is a waste, but then they want college degree people educating their young children, helping them with legal issues and etc. I know a few folks who are telling their teenage sons and daughters that they are on their own for paying for education after high school, because of the bleak outcome for today’s college graduate as featured in the “New Normal” editorial cartoon. They feel college is a wasted investment. And to think this bleak situation continues and increases under Pres. Obama! I hope the people most affected think seriously about not voting for him in November.

I must add that ”child care” at the end of the list  in the cartoon would be needed regardless, even if people could get jobs befitting  their degrees.

A Blessed and Remarkable Life

What a powerful conviction I get whenever I listen to or read about the latest in the life of Joni Eareckson Tada. Really, with all my problems, I have nothing to complain about.  Joni became a quadriplegic due to a diving accident at age 17 and in recent years, battled breast cancer. Joni Eareckson Tada continues to live a blessed and remarkable life. This video is from last month around the time she received NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) award. It is part 1. There does not appear to be a part 2 yet.

Joni Eareckson Tada will also receive the Wilberforce Award. Read about her thoughts on winning this award and on the growing mentality of ‘being better off dead than disabled’ here.

Speaking Out on Being a Black Republican

It is time to resurrect this video again. The panelist, Rev. Wesley Leonard, Angela McGlowan, Lynn Swann and Michael Williams are excellent, but personally, I identify the most with Rev. Leonard in going conservative Republican.

A Bumper Sticker Comment on Abortion

That is a good one from our late President, Ronald Reagan. He was right. All pro abortion folks got  the chance to experience life in this world. And to think, I was on the pro abortion side for a while! Praise the Lord for convicting me!
